Vamox® OTR
Methane emitted by coal mines, known as coal mine methane (CMM), is a potent greenhouse gas (GHG). Currently, only a portion of CMM emissions is captured for safety purposes and, in some cases, used as an energy source. However, 50% to 70% of all CMM comes from mine ventilation air and remains unused. Although this ventilation air methane (VAM) accounts for annual GHG emissions of more than 300 million tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (tCO₂e), its low methane concentration has, until now, been a barrier to its utilization.
Major advances now enable coal mines to take advantage of VAM:
- VAM destruction technology has been proven, and Biothermica’s VAMOX® system is commercially available.
- Biothermica offers mines a range of commercial approaches, including royalty-based agreements that allow VAMOX® projects to be developed without any upfront capital investment by the mines.
- Around the world, the sale of carbon credits ensures the financial viability of emission reduction projects. By securing revenue in hard currency, carbon credits provide a reliable means of financing greenhouse gas emission reduction initiatives.
These projects will contribute to the fight against climate change and promote sustainable development.
